Dear Neighbors and Supporters of ABC,
In 1981, A Better Chance in Darien, Inc was founded with the mission of providing a wonderful educational opportunity to young women of color who are capable of assuming positions of responsibility and leadership in our society. Since then, 39 talented scholars have graduated from Darien High School through the program. A great number of these young women have gone on to highly competitive colleges and enjoy successful careers today.
Throughout these years, our scholars have taken full advantage of the richness of a Darien High School education. This would be impossible without the regular support of our town, support that indicates your understanding of the importance of a great education. What a wonderful door to open for such deserving and motivated young women.
Those of us in the community who have shared our lives with ABC students understand the responsibility we have to provide them a positive, nurturing environment in which to grow and thrive. We also recognize the gifts their presence bestows on us. Whether it is through their positive attitude in the classroom, active involvement in extracurricular activities, or simply each student’s unique perspective, we know that they enrich our lives easily as much as we do theirs.
For 30 years we have looked to our community for the much-needed financial support that allows us to successfully carry out our mission. With an annual budget of $132,000, A Better Chance in Darien relies entirely on your recognition that the experience of a DHS education and four years in our community provides a strong foundation for our deserving scholars to build upon.
