Alumnae Spotlight

“My experience in ABC Darien was transformative in gifting me with life-long relationships, preparation for the academic rigor of university, and opportunities that have greatly impacted my life. With the love and encouragement of my family and support system in Darien, my self-confidence grew tremendously. That confidence empowered me to apply to my dream college, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where I majored in Communications, minored in Theater, and graduated with honors. My confidence supported me when I pitched my first two episodes of television that are now streaming on Netflix. com. I am grateful for the experience I had while at ABC in Darien. The lessons I learned continue to inform and enrich my life today.

- Niya, DHS/ABC in Darien graduate, 2012

I was an ABC in Darien Scholar from Brooklyn, graduating from DHS in 2003. I joined the ABC in Darien Board in 2020. As an ABC student, one of my favorite memories was the new year kickoff party with all the scholars, our parents, host families and board members coming together as one big family. When I began my own family, I wanted to help ABC build a stronger connection between the alumnae, current scholars, and the Darien community by creating mentorship and professional opportunities. I want to help the larger community to see us not as charity, but as exceptional young leaders who will leave a lasting impact. I enjoy the current scholars, a unique experience that we share. I am so proud of my “little sisters” and honored to be their champion in this role.
