Why did you choose ABC in Darien?

I chose ABC In Darien because it offers a unique opportunity to challenge myself academically while being part of a supporting community.  The program’s strong educational resources and welcoming environment has already helped me grow both personally and academically.

What makes a Community School Program special?

A community school program is special because it brings together the ABC girls as a whole. Staying away from home can be tricky at first, but you have 6-7 other built in sisters to help you with whatever you need. Along with having sisters, these programs provide academic support, enrichment activities and volunteering services to meet the needs of the whole community.  Being in this kind of program helped me grow outside of my normal community and adapt to a new one.

What is one thing you want the Darien community to know about the ABC program?

I want the Darien community to know that the ABC program is extremely supportive. Whether you’re dropping a class, a family emergency, an injury, not feeling well, home sickness, they will help make sure you feel comfortable no matter what.  I never have to shy away from telling how I feel, and the ABC community will listen, always.

How would you describe the vibe at the ABC house, and what does that mean to you?

The vibe at the ABC house is almost like the show “Friends”. It’s like living in a comedy show.  With a cute baby, a barking dog and 7 girls gossiping, cracking jokes and dancing almost all the time.  It is impossible not to have a fun moment here.  It feels like having a second place to call home and a family, where everyone is working hard but also looking out for each other and entertaining one another. Living with a group of peers where we are all driven to succeed pushes me more to do my best.  To me, it means having a community that pushes me to grow and celebrates my achievements all while providing the encouragement to thrive.

What are you most looking forward to this school year?

I am looking forward to track season, with lots of late night meets, movie nights at the ABC house, our annual “Thanksmas” celebration (Thanksgiving + Christmas), and our homecoming dance at DHS!

What activities are you involved in?

I’m involved in cross country, indoor and outdoor track, She’s the First, Yearbook, Neirad and managing the DHS library’s Instagram account.

How has ABC in Darien had an impact on you?

ABC in Darien has made a huge impact on me.  It taught me to self-advocate whether it’s incorrect grades on a test or someone saying something I didn’t really like.  I’ve learned to stick up for myself, set boundaries and recognize when I am in the wrong. I’ve definitely grown emotionally and mentally at m y time at ABC. In the most positive way.
