To provide scholarships to academically talented minority girls from underserved areas allowing them to realize their academic and social potential while living in Darien and attending DHS.

History

A BETTER CHANCE, Inc. is a national, nonprofit organization that fosters educational opportunities for talented minority students from around the country. A superior high school education is the key to providing college preparation for these qualified students.

Darien’s A Better Chance program was started in the fall of 1981. Six students along with resident directors live in town at 11 Brookside Road. The house is owned by the First Congregational Church and is leased to ABC for $1 a year. The students attend Darien High School.

Students can apply to A Better Chance programs through the national organization. If they are interested in a specific program, or area, they can specify that in their application.
